Our Financial Education Journey

Building Financial Literacy Through Real-World Experience

What started as a small consultation practice in Newcastle has grown into comprehensive financial education. We've helped over 400 Australian businesses understand their cash position better, and now we're sharing those insights through structured learning programs.

From Consultation to Education

Back in 2019, I was working with small manufacturing companies around Newcastle who kept asking the same questions about cash flow. They understood their products, their customers, their markets — but when it came to reading balance sheets or planning for seasonal cash crunches, many felt lost.

After three years of one-on-one sessions, I realized something important. The businesses that succeeded weren't necessarily those with the most capital. They were the ones whose owners truly understood liquidity patterns and solvency indicators. They could read their financial position like a map.

That's when divanorielu evolved from consultation into education. Rather than just solving immediate problems, we started teaching the frameworks that prevent them. Our programs grew from those real business scenarios — messy, complex, but ultimately learnable situations.

What We Actually Teach

Real-world financial analysis skills drawn from hundreds of business consultations across Newcastle and regional NSW

Cash Flow Reality

Understanding when money actually moves versus when it appears on paper. We cover seasonal patterns, payment delays, and the gap between profit and cash availability.

Ratio Analysis That Works

Moving beyond textbook formulas to ratios that actually predict problems. Current ratio, quick ratio, and debt-to-equity in real business contexts.

Early Warning Systems

Building dashboard metrics that flag liquidity issues before they become crises. Simple monitoring systems that busy business owners can actually use.

Built From Real Business Experience

Every module in our programs comes from actual client situations. The restaurant owner who nearly closed during lockdown but survived because they understood their burn rate. The construction company that timed their equipment purchases perfectly using solvency analysis. These aren't theoretical examples — they're case studies from businesses right here in Australia.

Who You'll Learn From

Our lead instructor, Rhiannon Kellerman, spent eight years in corporate finance before moving to Newcastle and starting divanorielu. She's worked with everyone from tech startups to family farms, always focusing on practical financial management rather than complex theory.

  • Clear explanations without financial jargon
  • Real examples from Australian businesses
  • Focus on practical application over theory
  • Ongoing support throughout the learning journey

Looking Ahead to 2025

This year we're expanding beyond our core liquidity and solvency programs. We're adding modules on forecasting techniques and scenario planning — skills that became crucial during the disruptions of recent years.

Our autumn 2025 cohort will be the first to experience our new interactive case study format. Instead of working through generic examples, participants will analyze financial data from real Australian companies (anonymized, of course) and present their findings to the group.

We're also piloting a mentorship component where successful program graduates can continue learning through quarterly business review sessions. Because financial literacy isn't something you achieve once — it's an ongoing conversation with your numbers.

If you're interested in joining our next program, applications for autumn 2025 open in March. We keep cohorts small (maximum 15 participants) to ensure everyone gets individual attention and can contribute meaningfully to discussions.
